Giving Back to our Charlotte Community

Charlotte, NC, gives a lot. In fact, the Queen City was named the most socially responsible big city in the U.S., by the Conscious Consumer Spending Index ranking in this Charlotte Observer article last November. Charlotte is home to more than 400 non-profits, according to Share Charlotte, which aims to engage the community with charitable organizations.

Here at Nanine Hartzenbusch Photography, we are proud to support area non-profits through silent auction and other donations. This spring we are donating portrait sessions to The Salvation Army , The Ronald McDonald House and the Charity League of Charlotte.

We are also excited to host a mini-portrait session event at the McGill Rose Garden on Saturday May 5 and Sunday May 6 to benefit the Charity League of Charlotte. The McGill Rose Garden is a gorgeous setting for portraits. This historic urban North Charlotte garden, filled with rose bushes and other flowers will sing “Spring!” into your portraits. Charity League is near and dear to my heart. I’ve been a proud member for nine years; seven of them I’ve served on the board including two years as President. The League has assisted Charlotte children in need for almost 100 years. Your participation in this event will help us with our literacy and learning initiatives with Charlotte area students. Please see details in the flier below and contact us soon, these sessions will book up quickly!

Brothers in a Winter Garden

I had a blast photographing two sisters’ families on a recent trip to the DC area. They live on opposite sides of the country so we celebrated with a portrait session during their holiday visit. The weather was freezing but that did not stop their sons from enjoying the great outdoors and running around the garden.Their mother and the boys’ grandmother was able to join in, which made for wonderful multi-generational portraits. Thank you for the opportunity to photograph your families and your sweet and fun boys!

Happy Fall, Y’all

The leaves are beginning to turn and there is a chill in the air. Finally! We are keeping busy at Nanine Hartzenbusch Photography photographing families, seniors, little ones and business portraits. In the next few weeks, I’ll be writing about each of these portrait sessions and showing you some fun images and how they can be used.

Perhaps you have a graduation senior ~ Let me capture some spectacular images now, before they head off, and create a custom graduation announcement/party invitation as well.

Maybe you are expecting a child. Let me photograph your beautiful maternity portraits and follow up with newborn, six month and one year portraits. 25+ years of experience and counting. Custom portrait photography is just that – Custom to YOU – to your surroundings, to your experiences. Each day brings new hope, new opportunities. Meet me in the Rose Garden

It’s hard to believe that we are almost a month away from the start of Spring. Soon enough our landscapes will be awash in green and colorful blossoms. Charlotte area friends, please join me on Sunday April 17 at the McGill Rose Garden as I photograph ten families to benefit The Lunch Project, a Charlotte-based philanthropic organization that gives kids the fuel to learn — by providing hot lunches to Tanzanian school children and inspiring service in all children.  Each portrait session will represent one day of hot lunches for the Lemanyata and Engorika schools, $85 provides for 900 lunches!

This will be my fifth year offering portrait mini-sessions!  Our 15 minute sessions will produce a set of portraits just in time for Mother’s Day. Each participant will receive a matted gift print, nicely packaged in a pear green signature box with organza ribbon, suitable for framing or giving as a gift to the special Moms in your life. The McGill Rose garden is a magical setting and provides a perfect backdrop for your beautiful family, sibling or child portrait. Nanine brings her 25+ years experience as a photojournalist, photo editor, educator and community volunteer to you. Please contact Nanine Hartzenbusch at nanine@naninephoto.com to book your appointment. Sessions take place at the McGill Rose Garden between 3 pm and 6 pm, but must be booked in advance.  I hope to see you Sunday April 17 !!

A Very Special Day

Today is Mother’s Day – a day to honor all mothers. I wish you all a happy day!  Last month, we celebrated a little early, with an afternoon of mini-portrait sessions to benefit The Lunch Project, at the McGill Rose Garden. For three years we have been photographing beautiful families in a lovely urban garden to support The Lunch Project.  We raised $850, which supports ten days of lunches for the school children in Lemanyata School in Arusha, Tanzania ~ 9000 lunches!

I am so honored to support The Lunch Project and all my wonderful friends that are volunteering in so many ways to build this philanthropic effort. And I am thankful. Many thanks to Rebecca Wofford for having the vision and courage to start The Lunch Project; to Kate Hindin for her tremendous support and good cheer; to Karisa Pennell who makes it possible for us to hold our event at the McGill Rose Garden; and to my sweet family ~ with me every step of the way. And last but not least, thank you to all the families that participated in our mini portrait sessions. We had so much fun ~ and here are some images from our special day:
