Honor Mom at the McGill Rose Garden

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

I only have five appointment slots left for Sunday April 22 at the McGill Rose Garden – I’ll be photographing special mini-portrait sessions in the garden, between 4 and 8 pm. For $75 you’ll receive a 20 minute photo session and a matted gift print (perfect for a Mother’s Day gift) and $60 of your session fee will be directly donated to The Lunch Project, a Charlotte philanthropic organization that helps school children in Tanzania. You’ll also get to walk the gardens as spring is bursting forth, spend time potting plants and enjoy the beautiful outdoors with your family. Additional gifts will be available to order, please see below for gift ideas! What a great way to honor mom and contribute towards a worthy cause. Please contact me at nanine@naninephoto.com if you would like to book one of my remaining sessions. I hope to see you April 22!!

Giving Back ~ The Light Factory Print Auction

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

Charlotte area friends ~ Please mark your calendars for a fun-filled evening benefitting The Light Factory ~ Saturday, November 19 at 7 pm. I’ve donated this print – one of my favorites from this summer – to the auction – a b&w print of a rhododendron blossom taken this summer at beautiful Linville Falls and Gorge.  This print and many others will be on display and auctioned off at this annual fundraiser at Extravaganza on North Tryon.  The Light Factory is one of four museums in the US devoted to film & photography. We are so fortunate to have The Light Factory with us,  so please come on out and help support this Charlotte treasure.

Linville Falls’ Hidden Treasures ~ A Weekend Journey

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

This past weekend we took advantage of our cool spell (60 degrees & drizzle) to explore Linville Falls and Gorge in the mountains of Western North Carolina. I’ve heard about the Falls for many years but had not ventured there. We discovered  one treasure after another ~ What a feast for the senses ~ The pine scent, the soft cool air on our faces, breathtaking vistas and a profusion of rhododendron blooms. I thought rhododendrons were reserved just for the month of June, but I learned there are 4 varieties and the ones in bloom right now are called Rosebay Rhododendron. I brought my Olympus Pen EP-2 and had a blast photographing Linville’s treasures. And here are some of my favorite images of the day ~

Landsford Canal – A Weekend Journey

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

I’d like to share with you a delightful place off the beaten path – Landsford Canal State Park in Catawba, SC, about an hour south of Charlotte, NC. A gorgeous spot along the Catawba River, Landsford Canal State Park offers a variety of attractions – hiking trails, canoe put-ins, historic canal locks and one of the largest stands of the rare Rocky Shoals spider lilies in the world. The lily season is now over, but the park offers a summer respite filled with visual gifts.  Mark your calendar for next year’s showing of the lilies – each year they bloom from mid-May to early June. I’ve had so much fun with my camera on our outdoor adventures ~ here are some glimpses into this precious park.

Asheville Blooms ~ A Weekend Journey

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011

It’s always a treat to visit Asheville, NC. Each season gives us something to enjoy and this spring was no exception. Colorful blooms, crisp mountain air, delicious food and beautiful art ~ a feast for the senses, a retreat if you will. Each time we visit we discover a new treasure off the beaten path. One of my favorite places to visit in Asheville is  the North Carolina Arboretum. A picturesque spot ~ it has lovely gardens, walking paths, hiking trails, an art gallery and very relaxing rocking chairs. I brought my Olympus Pen-EPL-2 my new favorite walking around camera and had a great time capturing the colors, shapes and light I encountered. Here are some of my favorite impressions from our journey to Asheville: (Scroll to the bottom for some fun Asheville travel tips! )

Weekend Journey Trip Tips :

  1. Check out Asheville Cottages for unique private luxurious accomodations a hop, skip & jump from Central Asheville – I highly recommend staying here!
  2. For a fun lunch place in Biltmore Village, check out Gianni Panini – specializing in Panini (of course!) espresso drinks and gelato. My favorite was the Portobello Mushroom/Arugula & Herbed goat Cheese panini with Almond flavored Iced Tea!
  3. For a downtown lunch, head over to Tupelo Honey Cafe. My favorite seat was at the bar so I could see the cooks work together as a team, as they put together some of the most delectable New South Cusine dishes ever.
  4. For a very special dinner check out this gem: The Admiral and that’s all I’ll divulge. According to one friend, it’s the best food she’s eaten in her whole life. need I say more?
  5. Favorite Art Galleries ~ Blue Spiral, American Folk Art & Framing, and the Haen Gallery sit in a neat row on Biltmore Avenue, making it easy to pop in and out of each gallery. Click here for a listing of downtown galleries
