Happy Fall, Y’all

Tuesday, October 31st, 2017

The leaves are beginning to turn and there is a chill in the air. Finally! We are keeping busy at Nanine Hartzenbusch Photography photographing families, seniors, little ones and business portraits. In the next few weeks, I’ll be writing about each of these portrait sessions and showing you some fun images and how they can be used.

Think about installing a family portrait wall! Or have me design a custom holiday card to send to your cherished friends and family. Perhaps you have a graduation senior ~ Let me capture some spectacular images now, before they head off, and create a custom graduation announcement/party invitation as well.

Maybe you are expecting a child. Let me photograph your beautiful maternity portraits and follow up with newborn, six month and one year portraits. 25+ years of experience and counting. Custom portrait photography is just that – Custom to YOU – to your surroundings, to your experiences. Each day brings new hope, new opportunities. There is no time like the present to book your portrait session.

Please give me a call at 704.909.9963 or drop me a line at nanine@naninephoto.com. We are getting busy as the season unfolds, but I have session times available during the weekdays and on some select weekends. I hope to hear from you soon!

Meet me in the Rose Garden

Wednesday, February 17th, 2016

It’s hard to believe that we are almost a month away from the start of Spring. Soon enough our landscapes will be awash in green and colorful blossoms. Charlotte area friends, please join me on Sunday April 17 at the McGill Rose Garden as I photograph ten families to benefit The Lunch Project, a Charlotte-based philanthropic organization that gives kids the fuel to learn — by providing hot lunches to Tanzanian school children and inspiring service in all children.  Each portrait session will represent one day of hot lunches for the Lemanyata and Engorika schools, $85 provides for 900 lunches!

This will be my fifth year offering portrait mini-sessions!  Our 15 minute sessions will produce a set of portraits just in time for Mother’s Day. Each participant will receive a matted gift print, nicely packaged in a pear green signature box with organza ribbon, suitable for framing or giving as a gift to the special Moms in your life. The McGill Rose garden is a magical setting and provides a perfect backdrop for your beautiful family, sibling or child portrait. Nanine brings her 25+ years experience as a photojournalist, photo editor, educator and community volunteer to you. Please contact Nanine Hartzenbusch at nanine@naninephoto.com to book your appointment. Sessions take place at the McGill Rose Garden between 3 pm and 6 pm, but must be booked in advance.  I hope to see you Sunday April 17 !!

A Very Special Day

Sunday, May 11th, 2014

Today is Mother’s Day – a day to honor all mothers. I wish you all a happy day!  Last month, we celebrated a little early, with an afternoon of mini-portrait sessions to benefit The Lunch Project, at the McGill Rose Garden. For three years we have been photographing beautiful families in a lovely urban garden to support The Lunch Project.  We raised $850, which supports ten days of lunches for the school children in Lemanyata School in Arusha, Tanzania ~ 9000 lunches!

I am so honored to support The Lunch Project and all my wonderful friends that are volunteering in so many ways to build this philanthropic effort. And I am thankful. Many thanks to Rebecca Wofford for having the vision and courage to start The Lunch Project; to Kate Hindin for her tremendous support and good cheer; to Karisa Pennell who makes it possible for us to hold our event at the McGill Rose Garden; and to my sweet family ~ with me every step of the way. And last but not least, thank you to all the families that participated in our mini portrait sessions. We had so much fun ~ and here are some images from our special day:

An Early Morning Stroll in the Garden

Tuesday, September 10th, 2013

I had so much fun photographing three siblings in the garden. We chose the early morning hour for the best light and optimum time (right after breakfast)! The colors were gorgeous, the light so soft and their smiles so sweet. I photographed this lovely family when their little brother was a baby and I hope to return again and again! I love watching my client families grow up so nicely. And these are my favorite images from their garden portrait session ~

Sweet Girl & Her Cello

Tuesday, September 3rd, 2013

I was delighted to photograph this sweet girl and her cello. We decided to photograph both indoors and outside among the trees. She is beautiful, confident and passionate about her music.  I wanted to show all of that in her portrait. We had a lot of fun that day,  and here are some of my favorites from our session!

Welcome to the World ~ Sweet Little Newborn

Tuesday, August 6th, 2013

I was delighted to photograph sweet baby M last week and her parents and older brother! We had a great time photographing indoors, outdoors, in color, and my favorite – b&w- to capture her preciousness on day seven of her life. What a privilege it was to spend time with this beautiful family. I was so honored to photograph these moments. And without further ado, here are my favorite images from our afternoon portrait session ~

A Twilight Portrait Session in the Park

Tuesday, July 16th, 2013

I enjoyed photographing these three sweet siblings in the park at twilight. The sun was setting, the light gorgeous and what a beautiful setting! I love bringing out the best in each child, to create a lasting keepsake. And here are some of my favorite images from our session in the park:

Happy Mother’s Day

Sunday, May 12th, 2013

Happy Mother’s Day everyone! Today we’ll take time to smell the roses and stroll the paths at the McGill Rose Garden in Charlotte, a Mother’s Day family tradition. If you have not been, please consider visiting today or any other day. It’s a lovely city block filled with roses and lots of other flowers, trees, bushes, grasses, sculptures and even a rail car. An oasis in the city, an unexpected surprise, a place of peace and contemplation. Last month I spent an afternoon photographing ten mini-portrait sessions to benefit The Lunch Project, a Charlotte based philanthropy that helps feed school children in Tanzania a hot lunch. I am thrilled to write a check today that will support ten lunch days at the Lemanyata School or 9,000 lunches. It costs $85 to feed 900 children a lunch. Please visit The Lunch Project on Facebook or their website to learn more about this wonderful organization. Our portrait mini-sessions included children, families, moms, dads, dogs, giant cookies and lots of laughs. It was a fun day and everyone received a matted gift print ready for gift giving or for keeping. Here are some portraits from our special day in the garden ~

Welcome to 2013

Thursday, January 24th, 2013

I look forward to each January as an opportunity to reflect on the past year and anticipate the gifts this new year will bring. Best lesson of 2012 – There is no substitution for “being there.” Spending time with good friends whom you cherish … Being with family near and far … Truly living and breathing in the moment … Helping a friend in need. As for 2013, I am excited for all the things to come. I’ve started teaching Photojournalism at the Knight School of Communication at Queens University of Charlotte ~ It’s such a privilege to  share the craft of visual storytelling with my students. I’ll be updating my website at Nanine Hartzenbusch Photography with new images ~ and I’m very excited to share  the best of the best with you. I look forward to working with clients, new and returning to bring lasting keepsakes to be treasured. Look for a spiffed up newsletter, special Limited Edition Photo Sessions, and stunning, elegant ways of displaying your family portraits.  As I was going through my recent images, I came across this one, symbolizing the road ahead, open and inviting. Just as my son was anticipating beach fun, I look forward to a year full of hope, opportunity and dreams fulfilled. Happy 2013 to all of you, I wish you all the best this year.

Sweet Children in the Rose Garden

Wednesday, August 8th, 2012

This past spring I had a lovely afternoon in the McGill Rose Garden with several special families. I photographed mini sessions and proceeds from the sessions directly benefitted  The Lunch Project, a Charlotte-based philanthropic organization, founded by Rebecca Wofford and Kristin Steele.  I met so many wonderful children and their parents that afternoon and was able to help The Lunch Project with a donation, so a win-win! The Lunch Project provides a hot lunch to school children at the Lamenyanta Primary School near Arusha Town in the Kilimanajaro Region of Tanzania. A hot lunch helps the children to learn and stay in school.  It costs $85 to feed 950 children one lunch. And The Lunch Project  provides an opportunity for families in the United States to teach their own children about philanthropy by sponsoring a lunch and reaching across the oceans to make a global connection with school children in Tanzania. Most recently, The Lunch Project has presented in local elementary schools and through an age-appropriate, educator-designed curriculum, they hope to inspire children to engage in philanthropy and become more globally aware.

These siblings had such sweet smiles were so much fun to photograph – we walked through the gardens and picked some fun places to take their portraits. Here are some of my favorite images from their session in the McGill Rose Garden ~
